Today we style with intention!
Let’s do a half up, half down hairstyle (one of my personal favourites).
Today’s Challenge:
To create one soft half up, half down hairstyle.
Today is a big moment — because this is where things start to feel very put together.
Up until now, you’ve been learning skills, but today, you’ll start styling with intention.
And I want you to know something before we begin:
Most pro hairstylists created their first real confidence boost with a half-up style.
This is where it clicks.
Why Half-Up Styles Matter
Half-up hairstyles are one of the most requested hairstyles I get asked to show friends, family and clients on how to do them. They want to wear it to work, to a wedding, to a girls lunch out etc. You’ll love learning this one!
They’re:
Soft but structured
Romantic but wearable
Flattering on almost everyone
If you can master a half-up style, you already have a skill that translates directly into real bridal work.
What You’ll Need Today
Curled hair (from Day 2)
Texture/volume (from Day 3)
Brush
Tail comb
Bobby pins preferably, or small elastics
Keep it simple. We’re building — not over complicating.
Today’s Challenge
Your challenge today is to create one soft half up / half down hairstyle.
Focus on:
Gentle volume at the crown
Soft movement through the lengths
Clean, intentional pin placement
This is not about symmetry or perfection. It’s about balance and softness.
How to Approach Today
As you style, think:
Lift first, then secure
Secure first, then soften
Always step back and look
What Success Looks Like Today
Success today is:
Hair lifted and flowing away from the face.
A soft, romantic finish
Feeling proud of how it looks
If you look at your style and think, “I’d actually be happy wearing this…” That’s a huge win!
After You Finish
Take a photo from the back and side
Place it on your Portfolio Photo Page
Complete your Day 4 worksheet
Tick off Day 4 on your checklist
You are officially building a portfolio now — even if it’s just for you.
A Gentle Reminder
If today feels exciting, that’s not a coincidence. This is often the day students realise:
“I can actually do this.”
And you’re only just getting started.
What’s Coming Tomorrow
Tomorrow, we’ll introduce braids — not complicated ones, but the kind that elevate any hairstyle instantly.
You’re layering skills beautifully.
I’ll see you tomorrow!
Be proud of today — you earned it.
